After that select image, adjustments, levels. Then slide the same black slider we have been using, leaving it at 0 makes a bright planet, 40 makes a little planet glow, and a 100 make almost no glow. select your desired brightness.

(should look like this)

Duplicate your planet layer and change the hue and satiration, and levels to create diffrent colors and brightness and place the planets around your galaxy. After you have created a few more planets if you wish you will have your galaxy. (feel free to go back and play with the noise opacity and levels along with everthing else until you are happy with the colors and brightness)

CIOS 152 Final Part 2

Final Continued (creating your galaxy)

Okay after you have added noise (your stars) you need to go to the blend mode and select Screen.

(should look like this)

Okay now we are going to get ride of the weak stars that are making the picture not look so good. Go to Image, Adjustment, Levels and move the same black slider we did before to 170 (you can change this later if you want more or less stars)

(should look like this)
Now on go to the opacity and change it to 50%. (you can change this later depending on your needs) but 50% makes the midtone stars fade to make dim stars and brings three diffrent tones of stars to our galaxy.

(should look like this)

Now we have our stars we are going to move to the final part the planets. Create a new layer and fill it with black from your paint bucket tool.

(should look like this)
Then select Filter, Render, lens flare. birng the brightness to 10% and select the 50-300mm zoom option and select okay.

This completes part 2

CIOS 152 Final Part 1

I will be teaching you how to make a galaxy overview with stars, planets, and wispy nebulas by using filters and adjustments.
First make a new document in photoshop and make sure it is 600 width and 400 height in pixals, (you can go bigger once you get the steps down) then take you paint bucket tool and fill your background layer with black.

(should look like this)

After that you should go to your foreground color and select a color for your wispy nebulas, i have picked a dark blue. Any color will do but i advise not using white as our stars will be white. After you have picked a color you fill want to go to the filter tab and select render diffrence clouds you will want to do this at least twice to get more black than the color you picked, continually hit ctrl+F untill you get a equal amount of black and your color.

(should look like this)

Now we are going to create more space go under the image tab, select adjustments, then select levels or just hit ctrl+L. pull the black slider on the input levels until you get ride of you light clouds. I find pulling it to 20 to be the best. This will darken up your galaxy. then click okay. And now we have our nebulas.

(should look like this)

Now we are going to create the stars for our galaxy. First create a new layer. Then fill it with black with your paint bucket tool.

(should look like this)

Now go under the filter tab and select Noise, add Noise. For the amount type 30 and select Gaussian and Monochromatic. then select okay.

(should look like this)

This completes part one.

CIOS 152 Project 7 Masks

This photo i did the most work on. I first added the lamp photo and created the mask from the midtones and shadows. I then added the woods photo and added the lamp mask over it. I then played with the gradient map tool on the woods photo until i got my tropical feel. I then went to the base lamp photo and selected the lamp's shade, and erased everything around the shade in the woods layer with the lamp mask. I then kept the base lamp photo and the woods/mask layer open and got my effect.

I first created my mask by merging my shadows and midtones selections. i then created my mask layer which i placed the inverse of the flowers and mirror selection in the mask "template" area. then i picked my black brush and added a premade style that photoshop comes with. I colored everything and then erased it from everywhere in the mirror. i then went to the base layer and used the poster edges adjustmetn layer i set it to Edge thinkness = 0 Edge Intensity = 10 and Posterization = 0. I then kept the base and top layer active and saved.

Very simple change, created my masks by using the midtones and shadows.
After merging and inverting i made a new layer and added the mask layer.
Then i filled the left side of the mask layer with black and kept the base layer active.
This made everything look darker and more glossy.

CIOS 152 Project 6

So i decided to do a landscape becuase i was having way too much trouble doing my other project. My first idea was to take three photos two side by side and the third in the middle of both but a little higher to make a triangle of photos to stitch but i came into way too many problems with perseption. so my bottom photo is of the three pictures unedited just layed into place. I started by darkinging the right most photo because the first two were close enough. I started by making another layer and filling it with black, i then picked the darken blend mode and played with the opacity until i was happy. I then used a mix of eraser on 10%, 20%, 30%, 50% and 80% to cut down at the lines as must as possible. I then merged the photos so i could work on them as a whole, I used the blur tool to get rid of the ripples in the water because they didn't line up properly. I then added another layer filled it with black and did as i did with the third picture to make the picture feel more like one.

CIOS 152 Project 5 Focus and Filters

Okay i have to admit that i have had a lot of fun with filters before this class. My digital Photography class did nothing up filters on our photos. Once i saw this project i knew exactly what i wanted, i wanted to do a sketched on paper look, a Comic book inked look, and a neon sign look.
For the neon sign look i duplicated my photo so i still had the default to fall back on. I had done a neon sign photo in my photography class so i new that i was going to use the glowing edges filter. Against what you would think, you would think to use the neon glow filter but it kills all the color that i wanted to keep. I placed the settings for the filter at EDGE WIDTH = 1, EDGE BRIGHTNESS = 10, and SMOOTHNESS = 7. After that i played with the opacity until i was happy and there it was.
The second photo, which is my comic book inked was inspired by all the marvel, DC, and other comic book brands that have come out with movies. So i wanted to bring us back to what they came form. What i remember from comics were the ink blots and the hard inks. So I used a Poster Edges filter because i remembered how it made a ink effect. however the default were way off from what i wanted. So i changed the settings too EDGE THICKNESS = 0, EDGE INTENSITY = 10, PASTEURIZATION = 0. This gave me the thinnest ink which was funny too me cause i was bringing back the think ink to make the letters readable.
The last photo i decided to try something i didn't already know how to do. So i wanted to do a paper sketch of the photo. Now i know that it's not the most original idea but i didn't use any of the SKETCH filters. I did most of this with layers and a wonderful filter. First i made a few duplicates of the picture, i then desaturated two to make it black and white, i decided on a pencil drawing look. I then inversed the top layer to make it more pencil on paper and not chalk on black board. So this is where i frustrated, i went down the list of blends to find something to make it work and i just couldn't. But you know the greatest things come from accidents, i had the image on color dodge which made the whole thing white which is why i was mad and was goofing off. So i started to play with the key board just hitting random keys as i was mad with myself. I hit some keys and it gave my the photo you see know, only after hitting back and forward a few times did i find out that i had added a Gaussian blur to the photo which was the last filter i had used on a different project i was doing. So i guess i had to share credit with this form of pencil drawing with my computer lol.

CIOS 152 Project 4 Zac the Cat

This was a very fun project, my only regret is that I colored inside the lines, my inner 6 year old is screaming at me.
To start I opened a new document in Photoshop in 700 by 700 pixels. I then started a new layer and placed the Zac Cat half image. Then I duplicated the layer and flipped it horizontally. I moved the image into place to the point where I feel it was even. I then merged the layers. After that I went to Color range under the select menu and used the eye dropper tool to select the black. This gives my all the black of that value, I then inverted the selection and erased all the white, it did take a little bit of black away from the edges but overall it helped sharpen my image because it was a little blurry from where I placed it. After that I locked the pixels it’s the little checker board button in the layers tab. I then colored the black lines in different colors. After that I duplicated the layer and filled the white spaces in the lower of the two layers with the paint bucket tool. Then I added texture twice on the lower of the two layers the first is the nose which I used the clouds texture on hard light blending. The second texture Metal Landscape I used for the face. I used texture and the black dots to bring the lookers eyes out form the complex textures to the clean easy solid colors on the outside to see the whole picture.

Quick ref ;P

1. Open new document
2. Make new layer
3. Place image
4. Duplicate layer
5. Flip horizontally
6. Merge layers
7. Color range from select menu select black lines
8. Invert selection
9. Erase white
10. Lock transparent pixels and then color
11. Duplicate layer and fill in white spaces with color on the lower image
12. Add texture to layer with brush on lower image (use a blend mode)
13. Then save as Photoshop file and JPG

CIOS 152 Project 3 part 2 dancing

I had to take some time with this picture. First i had a friend help me take my picture cause I'm not very coordinated with a camera in one hand and trying to pose lol. So after that i imported my picture and cut my head out which wasn't too hard. However my head was all the same shade even thou it was diffrent shades in color. So i took a brush and swiped my head a few times with white and used the soft light blend mode to get the finish on my face. But then my hair was tool light, so i took the burn tool and fixed my hair. I used the clone stamp tool to clear the other guys face out of the photo because if i had just left my head on his, either A. my head would be way too big, or B. part of his head would still be there. After all that I cleaned up the shirt and my neck a little and blurred the hard points to make it look smoother.

CIOS 152 Project 3 part 1 selection

I used the Rectanguler marquee tool twice once for veritcal and the second as "add to selection" to make a large cross in the middle of my file. Then still using the rectanguler marquee tool on add to selection mode, I made the four outer squares. Then i used the Elliptical marquee tool with subtract form selection and clicked the upper left corner with the shift key held down and draged it to the lower right corner and let it go to cut out that area. Then using the Polygonal lasso to make each of the triangles by making three points, which cut out that area of the selection. Then i used the paint bucket tool once to fill in everything i had selected.

CIOS 152 Project 2 part 2 Color

This project kicked my butt. I can't tell you how many diffrent ways i tried to get this just right. By the time i got the lamp light to go green the whole room was yellow, after fighting with the red for hours to get the blue i just about gave up on the bed as it was as orange as orange could get. My biggest problem was i needed yellow to get green light but i had to cut it out to get the red i wanted. finaly i got the blue window, the green light and the red bed, and there was no way i could get the wall the right color that i wanted.

CIOS 152 Project 2 part 1 adjustments

I push the colors to diffrent ends of the spectrum to get more whites and blacks to try and match the other picture.
Red 90%
yellow 90%
Green 300%
Cyan 100%
Blue 100%
Magenta 300%
this was the reading of the black and white function at the end with a tint hue of 30% and saturation of 15%
Then i continued to play around with the levels til i was happy with what i did.
